Oct 29: Biology Meet the Profs Night

Craig and fellow Ph.D. candidate Sam Georgian along with Masters student Carlee Cunningham join the professors of the Temple Department of Biology  at Meet the Profs Night hosted by the Temple undergraduate Biology Society to discuss undergraduate research opportunities within Temple Biology. The graduate student representatives discussed graduate school opportunities, why they chose graduate school over other options, reasons for choosing a specific graduate school and program, and the graduate school application process.

Oct 1: BIG Data in the Social Sciences

Craig provides opening slides at the interdisciplinary seminar entitled BIG Data in the Social Sciences co-hosted by the departments of Management Information Systems (Fox School of Business) and Biology. Over 50 students and researchers attended this seminar from schools including Tourism, Library Sciences, Law, Anthropology, Business, and Science and Technology. Craig discussed the emergence of BIG data in the social sciences and the need for new training methods. Craig also introduced new open-source training modules for BIG Data created this past summer while training NSF REU students in the Kulathinal lab and Yoo lab.


Sept 19: Graduate Student Quizzo

Craig and the Biology Graduate Student Society (BGSS) host an interdepartmental quizzo at night at the faculty and graduate student lounge on Temple’s campus. Started by the BGSS in 2013, interdepartmental quizzo night each month has become a place where graduate students can relax, share their research with students from other departments, and enjoy friendly competition. The event marked the largest turn out yet, with over 85 people representing 8 different graduate programs.



April 16: Kulathinal Lab High School Visit

In collaboration with the College of Science and Technology, Department of Biology, and the Kulathinal Lab, Craig hosted an afternoon workshop for 30 9th grade biology students from Central High School in Philadelphia. Students were able to interact with a diverse group of graduate and undergraduate students while rotating through workstations in programming, graphing, high-throughput ethomics, phenotypic diversity.
